Sorry for the off topic question, but there's noone better on the whole youtube to address it to to get professional answer. Is there any difference in meaning between these two phrases: "it has seemed to ruin" and "it seemed to have ruined"? In my language i can't translate these phrases word by word, so i have to understand the meaning to translate and that's where i get the confusion. And if there's no difference but just variety, is it even possible to say "it has seemed to have ruined"? Thank you very much. The whole actual sentence is "the romantic tension that has seemed to ruin my friendships with straight women".

The video explains the concept of reported speech, including the use of reporting verbs, back-shifting of tenses, and the differences between direct and indirect speech. It also covers the reporting of questions, commands, and modal verbs. Key moments: 00:00 Reported speech, also known as indirect speech, involves summarizing what someone said using back shifting, reporting verbs, modal verbs, reported questions, and commands step by step. -Direct speech is when exact words are quoted with quotation marks, with American English using double quotation marks and British English using single ones. -Back shifting involves changing present simple to past simple, like 'I love your earrings' becoming 'She loved my earrings' when reporting speech. -Reporting verbs like 'say' and 'tell' are common, with 'say' used for direct speech and both verbs being interchangeable in reported speech. 06:00 Understanding backshifting in reported speech is crucial for accurate communication. Present tenses shift to past tenses, while past perfect remains unchanged, and future tenses require 'will' to be changed to 'would'. -Explanation of backshifting in reported speech and its impact on tenses. Present tenses shift to past tenses, past perfect remains unchanged, and future tenses require 'will' to be changed to 'would'. -Examples of backshifting in reported speech. Present perfect becomes past perfect, present continuous becomes past continuous, and adjustments in pronouns and adverbs are necessary for accurate reporting. -Clarification on the use of 'had to' and 'tonight' in reported speech. The combination of past simple and future tense in reported speech can lead to seemingly confusing structures, which are clarified through examples. 10:23 When reporting speech, tense changes are not always necessary if the information remains true. Modal verbs require changes when reported, such as 'will' becoming 'would' and 'can' becoming 'could'. -Reporting speech without tense changes. It's unnecessary to alter tenses if the information is still valid, like 'She lives in the UK'. -Changes in modal verbs. Modal verbs like 'will' change to 'would' and 'can' to 'could' when reported, reflecting possibilities, permissions, and obligations. -Reported questions and commands. Exploring how to report yes-no questions and commands, highlighting the importance of backshifting and pronoun changes. 15:26 Reported speech involves reporting what someone else has said without quoting them directly. It requires changes in verbs, pronouns, and word order when reporting questions or imperatives. -Difference between 'if' and 'whether' in reported questions, with 'if' being more common. Indirect questions do not require subject-verb changes or question marks. -Reporting 'wh' questions like who, what, when, where, why, and how involves dropping auxiliary verbs and maintaining subject-verb order in reported speech. -Imperatives are commands that tell someone what to do. When reporting imperatives, the structure changes to 'tell + person + infinitive verb.' Generated by sider.ai

Hi Arnel, I've been watching your videos for a long time, and i get so many information about grammar. furthermore, I am a student of English department therefore recently what i needed much is writing a perfect paragraph with complete meaning and clear idea. The reason behind that is that i am being asked alot to explain some actions, activities and the main idea or them. For example, ive been given a story or a poem to read and i have to explain everything, so sometimes i face some problems with long paragraph and how to give clear idea. In brief explanation i hope you make a video teaching us how to do so.
